Maintenance Programs
Are HVAC Preventive Maintenance Programs Worth It?
Yes, they are. Think of your A/C and furnace like your car - if you get it tuned up regularly, you can avoid emergency breakdowns and extend its life expectancy, which will save you tons of money in the long run. Some choose to forego maintenance programs with the hope of saving money, but regularly having your HVAC equipment tuned up is less expensive than having to pay a substantial repair bill down the road.

What to Expect
Routine maintenance is one of the most effective ways to protect your investment. During your maintenance visit, our technicians inspect all major components, verify safe operation, check system performance, identify potential concerns, and make recommendations before small issues become costly repairs.
Whether your home has a furnace and air conditioner, heat pump system, mini-split system, or other comfort equipment, our maintenance program helps ensure your equipment is ready when you need it most.
At Custom Engineering, our goal is simple: provide dependable service, proactive maintenance, and peace of mind for our customers year after year.

Mini-Split / Ductless System Maintenance
Mini-split and ductless systems require specialized maintenance procedures and are priced separately from traditional heating and cooling equipment.
Pricing:
- $250.00 per maintenance visit for a single-zone system (1 indoor head and 1 outdoor unit)
- Each additional indoor head or outdoor unit is an additional $50.00 per visit
Most ductless systems only require one preventative maintenance visit per year. However, for systems that operate year-round for both heating and cooling, we may recommend two maintenance visits annually to help maintain performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Our maintenance service includes:
- Inspection and cleaning of indoor and outdoor equipment
- Air filter inspection and cleaning recommendations
- Electrical component inspection
- Refrigerant system evaluation
- Condensate drain inspection
- Operational and performance testing
- Verification of proper heating and cooling operation
Because every system is different, our team can help determine the maintenance schedule that best fits your equipment and usage.
6 Key Benefits of HVAC Preventive Maintenance for You
- Longer lifespan: Maintenance is critical for prolonging your system's lifespan. Well-maintained A/C units and furnaces can function reliably for as long as 20 years OR MORE. Opting for a preventive maintenance program can save you money and time in the long run.
- Comfort and safety: During your service appointments, a technician will clean out your system and examine the internal components. Technicians will explain what they've found and work to fix the problem on the spot.
- Improved air quality: All air in your house travels through a filter. A simple change of this filter removes trapped debris, dirt and allergens from the home.
- Reduced energy costs: Getting your system inspected regularly will ensure that it continues to work at maximum efficiency. If you don't have it thoroughly cleaned every year, you may negatively impact the unit's energy efficiency.
- Keeps warranties valid: Many HVAC system warranties are contingent upon the owner having a regular maintenance schedule. If your unit fails because you failed to keep up with maintenance, the warranties on parts and labor may be voided.
- Dependable operation: A broken A/C system can be miserable on hot, humid days, and a furnace failure can be life-threatening in colder weather. Regularly having your system maintained minimizes the chance of your unit leaking down prematurely, and that peace of mind is priceless
What Does it Include?
-
Every Maintenance Check-Up Includes The Following:
- Check thermostat settings to ensure the cooling and heating system keeps you comfortable when you are home and saves energy while you are away.
- Tighten all electrical connections and measure voltage and current on motors. Faulty electrical connections can cause unsafe operation of your system and reduce the life of major components.
- Check and inspect the condensate drain in your central air conditioner, furnace andfor heat pump (when in cooling mode). A plugged drain can cause water damage in the house and affect indoor humidity levels.
- Check controls of the system inspect/change filter to ensure proper and safe operation. Check the starting cycle of the equipment to assure the system starts, operates, and shuts off properly.
-
Cooling Specific
- Clean condenser air conditioning coils. Dirty coils reduce the system's ability to cool your home and cause the system to run longer, increasing energy costs and reducing the life of the equipment.
- Inspect and adjust blower components to provide proper system airflow for greater comfort levels. Airflow problems can reduce your system's efficiency by up to 15 percent
- Check your central air conditioner's refrigerant level and adjust if necessary. Too much or too little refrigerant will make your system less efficient increasing energy costs and reducing the life of the equipment.
-
Heating SpecificCheck all gas (or oil) connections, gas pressure, burner combustion and heat exchanger. Improperly operating gas (or oil) connections are a fire hazard and can contribute to health problems. A dirty burner or cracked heat exchanger causes improper burner operation. Either can cause the equipment to operate less safely and efficiently. Regular inspection eliminates worry of carbon monoxide leaks.
